Abstract

Two field experiments were carried out in 2006/7 to investigate the effect of applying azoxystrobin at GS 59 to the winter wheat varieties Glasgow, Deben and Consort. The results showed that the addition of azoxystrobin to the base treatment (prothioconazole + tebuconazole) increased yields by up to 0.60 t ha. Azoxystrobin increased the specific weight of grain to higher application rates in experiment one as a result of increased starch accumulation which led to a reduced grain protein concentration. Effects on grain quality resulted in the predicted spirit yield being increased by up to 5.9 L t.
